Sunshine Hotline
Kansans who feel they are being denied their
legal right of access to public records or public meetings
can turn to the Sunshine Hotline for information and advice.
The hotline - sponsored by the Kansas Sunshine Coalition for
Open Government - was implemented in February 2000 to assist
individuals seeking access to open government in Kansas at
all levels. Individuals may call the hotline with specific
questions about the right of access under the open meetings
and open records laws in Kansas.
The hotline number is (785) 233-3700 (long
distance fees apply for callers outside the Topeka area).
Callers should ask for Michael Merriam, media attorney for
the Coalition. There is no charge for legal advice given
during the initial call.
